As opposed to common conventional devices, Satellites automatically find UNIVERSE in the network. Once they have recognized a version of UNIVERSE, they register themselves in the project and transmit their registered name, their IP and the MAC-address of the local network card. A network configuration is not necessary anymore, neither at the Satellites nor at the Satellite-devices in UNIVERSE. If there are still no Satellites in the network then no corresponding devices will be created either.

If you want to start pre-production without active Satellites then you can drag and drop a Device into the Active Devices list. The status of this Device is permanently disconnected and it is a placeholder. If later a Satellite of the same type, such as the placeholder, is registered, it can be dissolved via the context menu in the placeholder device. All commands already created with the placeholder will now be executed on the real Satellite and the placeholder will be removed.

Satellites identify themselves internally via the ID of the computer they are on. Thus, a Satellite that has been registered once in UNIVERSE can still be used without making any adjustments when there is an IP change in the target system.
