Verbindungsstatus und Connection status and connection properties
UNIVERSE distinguishes four connection states/conditions:
Status |
Colour code |
Explanation |
unknown |
grey |
The connection is stateless and cannot be monitored - this concerns all connections that are based on UDP, ArtNet or OSC With these connection types it cannot be monitored if a command was transmitted correctly |
connected |
green |
An active connection has been established and is being monitored |
connecting |
yellow |
An attempt to establish an active connection is being made - the Device isn’t connected yet |
disconnected |
red |
No connection and no connection attempt |
incoming data |
White ring |
When data arrives, a white ring is blinking |
These displays are not available in Show-Mode but in the lower left corner there is a summary of all known connection statuses.
With the exception of MIDI-based connections, all active connection types have the following additional properties:
Auto Connect
There is only one attempt to establish the connection at the start of the project. If this fails, and the parameter Permanent Connection has not been set, the device stays offline.
Permanent Connection
If during activity the connection is lost, the system will attempt to re-establish it immediately. If this parameter is deactivated, Auto Connect isn’t possible either. In situations with unstable network infrastructures, like an overused wireless network, it could be helpful to deactivate Permanent Connection. In this case, only at the moment of sending a command a connection gets established, and closed again after sending.
Active connections (except MIDI) are validated every 5 seconds. It can take up to 5 seconds until a status change in the connection establishment is displayed or a Watchdog reagieren kann. can react. This time can be reduced by the use of a service called Ping, but only the connection to the computer or network switch or terminal is tested, not the connection to a software such as a media server.
